Very good expansion, almost a must-buy once you have the Core set and get familiar with the game. The quests are excellent: very fun and thematic. If you buy this with a few of the adventure packs for this expansion, it gets even better (the best being Watcher in the Water, Foundations of Stone, Shadow and Flame) with excellent quests and excellent player cards. I only have the Core set, this expansion, and the three mentioned adventure packs and my card pool is pretty good and we have pretty good decks. We’ve played the quests in this expansion a few times and they are very good.

As the first big-box expansion for the LotR LCG, this set really delivers. Many of the quests are tense and dangerous, while the new allies, attachments, and events are tailor-made to help your intrepid heroes survive and conquer the many trials that await them. In particular I enjoyed the Nameless Horror foreshadowing quest (which culminates in the Shadow and Flame adventure pack). The new mechanics are fun and interesting, and several of the new heroes offer tactical decisions for players of various deck types.

I don’t think this is as good an expansion in retrospect as others may have felt when they first bought it. When it came out, it offered the best way to get some nice dwarf cards. But with the Saga Expansions, I think it diminishes in value somewhat – at least as far as a deck-builder goes.
However, there is one reason to get it. The quests are fun, and the other Adventure Packs in the cycle are still my favorites to date. And those adventure packs have some of the best heroes to date.
If I didn’t really want to play the Adventure Packs from the rest of the series, the value of this expansion would greatly diminish.

If you’re a fan of Dwarves, this is a must own expansion. Bifur (one of the two hero cards included) is also a welcome addition to many non-dwarf decks. The quests are loads of fun and player cards are some of the essential additions to solid dwarf builds.
That said, if you have no interest in running a dwarf deck or slaying orcs, this expansion will have nothing to offer.

Must buy!

Good as the basic set! Beautiful cards, good expansion in order to try to win (we did not succeed in it for the moment). I suggest to buy it after the set core and before all the others.

A great follow up to the base LotR Card Game. If you have finished the base game and those quest then pick this up to continue the fun. Great Dwarven theme, great cards and interesting quests. 100% recommended if you are into the Lord of the Rings Living Card Game.

This is the first expansion I have purchased for the LOTR card game. with this expensive of an expansion I would have liked to see more heroes. But the quests and cards it includes are quite fun and are much harder than the ones in the original game. It was nice to have some new challenges.

Altamonte adictivo! A mi criterio de las mejores expansiones para LOTR LCG. Los escenarios estan muy padres. Y la dificultad te ayuda a que vayas creciendo en la construccion de mazos…

I read a recommendation to make this one of my first expansions, along with three of the adventure packs from this cycle, and I must say that I was not disappointed. Add Foundations of Stone, The Watcher in the Water, and Shadow and Flame and you’ve got yourself a pile of fun player cards and challenging scenarios.
I must say that some of the scenarios scale better than others. We tried multiple (4? 5?) times to beat Flight from Moria in a four player game, and just could not make it work, nor even really get close. I beat it on my second try playing Solo.
Given that I haven’t bought any other expansions, I can’t comment as to comparing with later expansions and power creep. I skipped the mirkwood cycle though, and at least a little bit wished I had access to more player card options when building my decks. Obviously, the more you collect, the more flexibility you get in attempting alternate strategies.

Who doesn’t love the Lord of the rings?! Art work is great! Game play is fun and challenging. This expansion focuses on the dwarves. This game is not for the faint of heart. Just like adventuring in Middle Earth, your gonna see some losses before you defeat the evil of Mordor!
