Over Coffee was a very fun experience. Using its cards, it was a lighthearted and easy way to get fun conversation going naturally and effortlessly. I believe it has a very broad-based appeal. I played it with a new friend that I didn’t know that well and comfortable conversation flowed easily from the start. I believe it can easily be used among good friends and family, complete strangers, for team building and wherever icebreaking is necessary or desired. I don’t know that the creator of Over Coffee is going to go in this direction but it seems to me that it would be a great dating tool, kind of like speed dating but with a built-in easy, natural conversation starter. I look forward to playing the set I got in many different contexts. The price was quite reasonable considering the many ways Over Coffee can be used to generate easy and fun conversations in so many different situations. Give it a try!

I first played Over Coffee at a neighborhood game night. The game is best played in small groups of 4-8 people. The rules are clear and easy to learn and this game could work for most age groups, older teens and up. The cards ask thought-provoking questions of the players, who then ask creative and lightly structured follow-up questions. The prompts ask the players to share their ideas, personal stories, and perspectives. It also encourages everyone to really listen and engage with each other in a respectful manner. This would be a fantastic game to play as a get to know you activity, or as a way to deepen relationships. I played with a small group of strangers, which actually works well because the game works best when people share authentically, so you can get a really make connections with your fellow players, even if you don’t know them well. I bought this set for my parents to use with their church covenant group. I would absolutely recommend picking up this game, especially if you need a fun and creative way to break the ice or bring people together.

This game is a fantastic way to get to know new people, or deepen relationships, or just have deeper conversations. I was introduced to it at a dinner party, but I know others have used it for orientation or team-building. The prompts on the cards ask you questions-some are simple and some are deeper, but the magic happens as the game continues because the participants are prompted to ask follow up questions.
It was remarkable that by the end of just one game, I felt close to the five other people at my dinner table, and was really excited to continue the conversation and get to know them more. Without the game, we would’ve talked about our jobs and our kids, but with the game, it was a much more fun, richer, and deeper evening.

This game is more than an ice-breaker, it’s a connector. I played with a group of 5 people – one I knew, the others I did not – and this game facilitated us in getting to know each other on more than a superficial “What do you do? Do you have kids? etc.” conversation. We got to have meaningful discussions and by way of the game were able to ask questions of depth with help of the prompts. I see this as a great way to stimulate family conversations to a greater depth, and can also see the value in team and community building scenarios.
